Before the New Season 2003/2004

The holidays are almost here. For us, dance fans, there is one more event in the middle of summer - The World Championships in Youth Latin in Singapore. There was a real campaign on Marek Kosaty's page. There was anonymous criticism, some praise, claims and expressions of other feelings every day. Everybody - fans, supporters and opponents expressed their opinions to the very last day before the tournament.           This was the most frequently visited site - "Kosaszone" - and certainly it was a place for many not only dance competitions. The events (not only personal) and the growing pressure of the upcoming tournament caused the bigger internet activity of the dance fans. As we all know, according to the PTT's regulations the Polish champion represents the country on the tournament, the second pair is the one with the greatest number of points according to PTT's standing. I believe that the people behind this second solution did not think the idea through. We all know what the result of this was. No one who is not close to the authorities knows why such representatives of our country are going to the World Championships.

Let's start from amateurs Latin. The Polish Champions Sourkov & Melnicka were supposed to go to Saint Petersburg. It was obvious (until recently). The second pair in the standing Lowicki & Rogozina cannot go because they have parted. The youth couple Hough & Piotrowska is taking advantage of the occasion. The regulations allow that, so they decide to go to the Championships as the second amateur pair. Yes, but in a moment it turns out that they are going as the first pair because Sourkov & Melnicka decide not to participate. Probably they have read all the information about the situation in the Russian world of dance under the reign of Dorokhow on the danceplaza. They may not have been the only ones to get scared of all this news. As the result Poland is going to be represented by the third and fourth pair. Nevertheles I wish both pairs success. Another puzzling action was choosing representatives for the World Championships in Youth Latin. I will not comment on the pairs' race to win the points for the standing. The facts are as follows: The Polish Champions are not going because they have decided to seek luck in amateurs. They are entitled to that. The second pair after surviving in the standing and due to Aneta's and Derek's giving up are going to Singapore as our first pair. But there are supposed to be two pairs. I look at the results of the championships. I compare them to the voices on the site. We did not get any official information about the second pair from PTT. (Look at the official site of PTT www.taniec.pl) So, what happened? The third, the fourth, the fifth, ..... the twelfth pair do not want to go. They have the right because they would be going for their own money. PTT also cannot do anything about it because it does not pay anything to the youth representing Poland on the dance floors. Finally, we have the second and the thirteenth pair going. With all respect to both pairs we could have known the result. In addition, the fans on the net expected all prizes for our pairs. The finals would be the worst outcome. You could read a lot of opinions with Polish logins on danceplaza or kosaszone expecting even the second place. Unfortunately the reality was quite different.

Well, ahead of us we have Saint Petersburg. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Aneta & Derek and Magda Soszynska & Marcin Hakiel.

The regulations that are not precise, "hobbling" charters often become the cause of many organizations' decline. Dance is not sport. It is impossible to put it in the frames characteristic for sport, olympic events. But does this mean that we have to agree with the functioning of "bad law" or the lack of interst in the best sportsmen on behalf of our association authorities? Will anyone notice it is high time something changed for the benefit of our dancers and our own? I think we should start with legal and charter regulations, Then the time will come to change the people. The ballroom dancing in Poland with such a devotion from dancers andt their promotors could become our biggest event, even specialty. But will it?
