Before the New Season 2003/2004

May is also marked by the European Champioships in amateurs Latin in Losagne. Agnieszka with Sergiej and Julia with Przemek came back not fully satisfied with their results (Sergiej - 7th place, semi-finals and Przemek - 17th place, quarter-finals). We really regretted that due to the IDSF's regulations the Czech champions Ewa with Jan could not participate in either the European or World Championships.

But May is espacially associated with Blackpool. The whole world is getting ready for this biggest event in dance. It is a pity that PTT was not represented there. However, there was a nice Polish mark on the congress. There was Colin James among the lecturers, who with a numerous group of Polish pairs gave one of the lectures on the congress. This year not only there were very few Polish pairs competing but also little Polish audience. I wrote about it in "dancesport.pl" after coming back from Blackpool.

"I also wish to be among those bewildered. It was my 5th festival in Blackpool. There may be a lot of reasons why there were so few Polish pairs present. They might be money, perhaps fewer pairs that want to compete with the best in the world and so on. I remember that a few years ago during one of the breaks Mr Sakowski would call Polish team to make a photo together. I remember quite a large group composed of dancers, trainers, activists and parents gathering there. Every year Poland used to be represented by some members of the Congress. This year ... NOBODY, no members, no judges! Where can you watch the best pairs, see the latest international trends? The answer is obvious - Blackpool. But there was no one from our country. There were some exceptions, of course, like Mrs Majewska from Wrocław (it was her 15th time), Rafał Konopacki (11th time in Blackpool) and Igor Gutowski (almost Polish judge). I also saw the Kasperowiczes from the USA."

This article provoked a discussion. Anyway, one of the effects is that we can mark the lack of interest of PTT authorities in the dance and dancers' matters as very poor. The discussion was joined by Adam Socik, the owner of the internet service www.twist.home.pl. This was the end of the talking because other hot issues appeared which pushed everything else aside. I will talk about them later.
